Wicken Fen

Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve is a 785-hectare sanctuary for nature enthusiasts in Witchford, Norfolk. Since its care by the National Trust in 1899, this reserve has grown to include designations such as National Nature Reserve and Ramsar Site. In the 1890s, Charles Rothschild's vision of preserving wetlands led him to purchase just 2 acres for £10, which he later donated to the National Trust. The Wicken Fen Vision aims to expand the reserve significantly, creating diverse wetland habitats over 5300 square hectares. To support this vision, grazing animals like Highland cattle and Eastern European Konik ponies roam freely across the expanded area via a bridge constructed in Spring 2017.
