The past fortnight in Thetford

Curated by Norfolk Local·29 July 2026

The last two weeks have flown by, and with them a whole host of exciting events and updates that we just can't wait to share with you! From news that's been making headlines in Thetford to upcoming happenings in our lovely Norfolk town, there's plenty to catch up on. Let's take a look at what's been going on in Thetford over the past fortnight...

In the Norfolk news

It's been a mixed bag of news in and around Thetford over the past fortnight. On the positive side, The English Distillery Co. based near our town has earned a top honour at the Great Taste Awards for its 'hidden gem' whisky product - a well-deserved recognition of their hard work and dedication to producing high-quality spirits. However, not all news from Thetford has been as pleasant. Two landlords have been hit with massive fines of over £316,000 for renting out homes that were deemed unsafe for tenants. This is a stark reminder of the importance of responsible property ownership and the need for rigorous checks on rental properties to ensure they meet basic safety standards. Unfortunately, the heatwaves we've experienced recently have also had their impact locally. A fire broke out in Thetford Forest, causing disruption and concern for those who live nearby. Additionally, a paramedic was struck off after secretly filming a woman changing, highlighting the need for greater awareness of personal boundaries and respect for others' privacy. On a more uplifting note, Puddin cake shop's decision to close its events studio space has been met with sadness from customers who have enjoyed their services over the years. However, it's clear that this was not an easy decision for the business owners, who described the past year as their 'hardest' yet.

As we bring this two-week review to a close, I'd like to thank you for joining me on this journey through the latest news and events affecting our wonderful community in Norfolk. If you're new here, I hope you've enjoyed exploring Thetford's stories - and if you're a regular reader, thanks for sticking with us!
